LUCA GIOVAGNOLI
With each stroke of acrylic oil on canvas, I strive to transport these enigmatic figures from their faded existence, provoking questions and evoking emotions in those who encounter them. Through my art, I invite others to contemplate the timeless connection between history and the present, and the profound complexities of our existence."
Luca was born in 1963 in Rimini, where he still resides to this day. He leads a dual work life, splitting his time between Rimini and Milan. His artistic journey first began with a strong inclination towards graphics, fueled by his deep passion for comics. As he delved deeper into the world of art, he found himself captivated by the enchanting allure of colors. It was during this time that he began creating his initial artworks, which ultimately led to his triumphant debut with a solo exhibition in 1991.
Since his debut, Luca's canvases have become populated with captivating themes drawn from past ages. Viewers are inevitably drawn into a realm that raises countless questions. What are these enigmatic figures engaged in, and what emotions do their faces seek to convey? These figures, detached from their original contexts and transported into the present, leave a lasting impression on those who encounter them.
As described by Davide Rondoni, "just like someone who does not want to lose himself, who refuses to be forgotten. They are unwilling to be confined to a distant, faded existence - a mere fragment from the past. In contrast to the chaotic and vibrant perception of the present, these human figures, although sometimes posing in a deceitful manner or wearing masks, yearn to exist once again."
Luca's current technique involves working with acrylic oil on canvas or paper, allowing him to bring forth his compelling vision onto tangible surfaces. Through his unique artistic expressions, Luca invites us to contemplate the complexities of existence and the persistent pull of history in our lives.
