PETER EVANS

"Art is not what you see, but what you make others see." — Edgar Degas

As an artist, this quote reflects my own philosophy: my work is not just what I perceive, but what I can convey to others so they experience it in a unique way.

Peter Evans (b. 1979) is a highly regarded multidisciplinary artist and songwriter originally from London, now based in Brazil. Known for his innovative and thought-provoking approach to art, Evans draws inspiration from a wide range of sources, including found materials, ephemera, and the everyday objects and occurrences that often go unnoticed in daily life. Through his work, he reimagines these familiar and overlooked elements, repurposing them to create new and abstract forms that challenge conventional perceptions.

Evans is particularly adept at working across multiple mediums, including collage, photography, and painting. His abstract works are accessible yet open-ended, encouraging viewers to engage with them in a personal and introspective way. By leaving the meaning of his pieces ambiguous, he creates space for each viewer to form their own interpretations, offering a unique and reflective experience for those who engage with his art.

Evans graduated from the prestigious MA Fine Art course at Chelsea College of Art in 2016, where he was honored with the Vice Chancellor's Scholarship, a testament to his exceptional talent and potential. Since then, his work has been showcased in numerous notable exhibitions, including at Saatchi and Delphian Galleries in London, Mana Contemporary in New York, and En Face in Paris. His self-published book Thinking of You, Postcards: 1948-2015 was included in the Tate Library & Archive collection in 2017, further cementing his reputation within the art world.

In 2019, Evans completed a residency at the renowned Palazzo Monti in Brescia, Italy, where he had the opportunity to further develop his artistic practice. That same year, he made the decision to relocate to Brazil, where he now resides and works from a ranch situated just outside Rio de Janeiro. His move to Brazil marks an exciting new chapter in his career, allowing him to continue exploring and expanding his creative vision in a new and inspiring environment.
