FLORA CASTIGLIA

“Not everything has to be seen as it is. Encrypted information has to be decoded. Nothing is simple and ephemeral nor literal. The information could be misleading, it is necessary to stop for a while to observe. Meaning is underneath".

Flora is an Argentine artist, born in Buenos Aires, whose artistic journey began at a very young age. She was introduced to the world of art by her mother, an accomplished artist in her own right. Growing up surrounded by creativity, Flora was often immersed in her mother’s home studio, observing her work and gaining an early understanding of the importance of discipline and creativity in the artistic process. This exposure deeply influenced Castiglia’s own approach to art, shaping her ethos and artistic vision from an early age.

Flora’s early artistic works were primarily focused on creating designs for musicians and interpreting album covers, a formative phase that undeniably left its mark on her later work. These early influences have significantly contributed to the melodic quality that can be found in her imagery today. Her pieces often evoke the rhythm and harmony found in music, with subtle visual references to musical notes and their interplay within the compositions. Her use of a muted, deep color palette enhances this melodic aesthetic, creating an instantly recognizable style that resonates with a sense of rhythm and movement.

Her work is contemplative, yet visually striking, exploring the complex relationship between the interior and exterior worlds, and how our bodies exist within these realms. Through intricate patterns, fluid shapes, and carefully selected colors, Castiglia deconstructs familiar spaces and objects, offering a fresh perspective on their placement and meaning. Her abstract works serve as a space for transformation, where interior and exterior landscapes blend seamlessly. In this interdimensional space, familiar elements—such as potted plants and mountains—coexist in an organic, almost dreamlike way. Flora's work invites viewers to reflect on their own relationship with space and their perceptions of the world around them, while also encouraging a deeper understanding of the interplay between the physical and the emotional realms.
